Ever had your mind drift off while you’re in the mid­dle a phone call with a prospect or cus­tomer? You're in the zone. And then — whoosh! Thoughts from all over the place invade your brain and you're dis­tracted. You wouldn’t be the first per­son to ever do this. Because you can’t see the per­son you’re talk­ing to, tele­phone com­mu­ni­ca­tions require an extra dose of focus on your part. Here are three tips to help you:

1. Pic­ture the per­son sit­ting across from you and imag­ine that you’re mak­ing eye con­tact.
2. Lis­ten not only for key words, but also for key feel­ings.
3. Iden­tify the com­mu­ni­ca­tion style of the person.

You’ll be sur­prised how a lit­tle focus can help to cure a wan­der­ing mind!
